cincan19We've been busy!
Took Jonathan to the water park on Wednesday and had such a good time, we repeated the experience on Thursday, adding his cousins Regan, Summer and Krysta. Summer is 9, her sister Regan is almost 14 and Krysta is 14. The kids had a ball, especially in the wave pool. I have pix, but I usually link them here from bennetgirls and I'm unable to get into the site storage at the moment. :(
Yesterday started an interesting youth project with the teenagers from the Altamonte Springs Church of Christ (that's just north of Orlando). The kids all met at the church building and while some of them worked on sprucing up the grounds, some others went around the neighborhood and invited people to a gospel meeting. They all went out to lunch and then came back to either clean up more or go sing at a nursing home. Jon spent all day cleaning and trimming palms and things like that. Gail and Phil, who are from the Altamonte Springs congregation and heading this entire thing, and who are from here (and have family members in our congregation), both told Derf and I what a hard worker he is. Of course, this hard work was seen before Derf went down to the building in the afternoon to lend his pressure washer. ;) They never seem to work as hard when their parents are there, do they?
After the meeting last night the kids all went bowling until midnight, and Jon and his friend Tim managed to get a lane with two cute girls from the visiting congregation. And some of us brought brownies and cookies for the kids. Jon said he had a great time.
Today, there are classes in the building for a couple of hours, followed by a pool party at Rhonda's house. Rhonda is Gail's sister. :) I'll be in the kitchen this morning making deviled eggs and a veggie tray to go with the other stuff people are bringing in for their lunch.
It's been a very good experience for Jonathan. Our preacher's wife said to me last night that she likes the kids getting to know others, but the best part of this is how much closer our own teens are growing together, as well. I have to agree.
